I almost died laughing last night. I brought home a cooked chicken from the grocery store and Stitch Murphy got his head stuck in the packaging. I was in the kitchen and just saw him walk by with this enormous cardboard collar. His lazy ass was not even trying to get out of it. So I did what any respectable cat owner would do and picked him up to show Gar so that we could both heartily laugh at him (photo credit goes to Gar).

Stitch’s First Birthday
Hello my name is Stitch Murphy and today is my first birthday. Do you see the birds on the wall behind me? Well, the stoopid hoomins put them up and they are actually fake bird stickers. I’ve killed about five of them. Happy Birthday to me.
Stitch’s First Christmas
This is Stitch Murphy’s first holiday season and, shockingly, he is not terrorizing the Christmas tree or decorations. However, let me take this opportunity to tell you what he is doing. He is obsessing over q-tips. If he sees a q-tip he will manically try to eat it. The last time he got a hold of a q-tip I accidentally left the bathroom drawer open for a moment and he dove into the q-tip box. I chased him around the house, pulled him out of the closet, and grabbed half of a q-tip out of his throat… I never found the other half. He is also chewing cords of all kind. Finally, and this one is my favorite, he is obsessing over Mr. Kitty’s food which is located up high on top of a cabinet in the bathroom where Stitch’s uncoordinated derpy ass cannot get to. He obsesses over it so much that the other morning while I was getting dressed he tried to jump on me and climb me like a tree to get to the food bowl. My stomach looks like I got slashed by Wolverine. On the bright side, I’ve heard of people with cats who can open cabinets and/or fridge doors… glad that’s not happening.
Creeper Cats
Every morning when I work out the cats are super creepers. Kitty sits by the tv staring and Stitch sits on the coffee table staring… Just staring.
My Life Goes To The Dogs
This is my life every morning. I get up, get ready, and sit down to do a little bit of work before going in to actual work and the dogs do this. The little dogs play constantly either with each other or Stitch Murphy and Loki tries to be a lap dog.
Stitch Murphy Faces
I am amazed by all the different looks that this cat has. Sometimes he is Crazy Cat and sometimes he is Grumpy Cat.
I just finished taking care of my mom’s dog Darla at my house while my mom was out of town. She is on the left couch pillow above Stitch Murphy and next to Freya. Its funny how the little girl dogs do some of the same exact things. Darla can be somewhat dog-aggressive but when she is with my dogs she’s an angel and never shows aggression of any kind. I like having her over for extended visits. When you have three dogs already, throwing another little one in the mix is hardly noticeable.
We Are Siamese If You Please
Stitch is so sweet to everyone, people and animals included. I have way too many pictures of him sleeping
Grumpy Stitch Murphy
Stitch Murphy sometimes tries his hardest to impersonate grumpy cat.
Tahini Yogurt Sauce
For those that don’t know, tahini is a paste made from sesame seeds and it’s good (I know its hard but try to hold back your admiration for that incredibly informative description of tahini). I picked up my tahini at a health food grocery store and it was next to the peanut butter oddly enough… or maybe it’s not odd I don’t know. I wanted to make a tahini sauce for some falafels that I was frying up.
Naughty Row Row Tricks
A couple of days ago, while I was working from home, Rowan pulled paper towels out of the trash that had I used to soak up beef fat and began eating them. I’ve had my new trash can for four months and thought it was impenetrable. It is tall and has a lid heavy enough to keep Rowan out, or so I thought. What pissed me off most about this is that Rowan jeopardized the kitten. Stitch Murphy was sitting right next to him trying to join in on the fun. By now I know that Rowan has a stomach of steel and is in no way prone to pancreatitis but he could’ve made the kitten really sick. I yelled at him and he ran to the bed and did this pose. I really can’t stay mad at him for long, he is uncommonly cute.
I’ve been thinking that, when you have a little dog who is as food motivated and hyper as Rowan, it is like being the parent of a toddler who never grows older and is hell-bent on eating anything that remotely resembles food. Part of my relationship with Rowan involves discovering and putting an end to his food retrieval techniques. For the longest time, I kept bread, rice, and tortillas (since I use these items pretty often) on a waist-high rack that is in my woodblock island in the kitchen.
Well, one night while I was sleeping (this is before I began locking Rowan in the bedroom at night) Row Row perfected the method of standing in the lowest rack of the island while nudging food items through the space between the wood slats to the end of the rack and, finally, getting out of the island and standing on his tip-toes to retrieve the food items from the edge of the rack. I woke up in the middle of that night to find Rowan just finishing off a bag of corn tortillas. He had already eaten an entire loaf of onion dill rye bread and half a bag of uncooked rice. FYI, uncooked rice just goes right through them pretty much unchanged. Before this incident, Rowan got some uncooked rice but I couldn’t figure out how and I didn’t know that he ate the rice until I saw his rice poop the next day.
Anyhow, I took Rowan to the emergency clinic that night to induce vomiting and he ended up being just fine. I called them when I was leaving to find out the cost of these things and to tell them what my dog had done. When I walked in the door the receptionist said, “That little guy ate all that? I thought you were going to bring a lab in.” No, my lab was still sleeping like an angel at home. Then, and I’m really not making this up, Rowan shit on their welcome mat.
Stitch Murphy
Stitch Murphy (aka Stitch, Stitch Murf, Murfles) is the most recent addition to our family. All I can say about Stitch so far is that he is incredibly playful and sweet. He loves the dogs, and acts like them a lot of the time. Stitch is obsessed with food, there is no food item that he has not shown interest in.
Welcome Stitch Murphy
Shortly after my beloved Fenris passed, I knew I wanted another cat. However, I decided this time I was going to be extremely picky. I adopted my last two cats as adults (well Fenris was supposedly an adult at the time) from rescue groups and this time around I wanted a kitten with a good upbringing for various reasons. Firstly, I wanted a kitten because he (I usually always choose male animals but that is another story) would have the best chance of getting along with 10-year-old Mr. Kitty. I also wanted the kitten to grow up around the dogs and not hate their guts. Finally, I wanted a kitten who spent the first 8 weeks of his life with his mom and siblings in order to not be fearful and have social manners as far as cats go. I would like to say at this point that there are countless amazing adult cats available for adoption at shelters and rescue groups. However, I felt that a kitten who had a good upbringing was ideal for my family at the time.
